Trailer-inspection capability depends on the selected station’s authorization, available space and equipment, and the trailer’s size, weight, configuration, and brake system. Call before arrival with the exact trailer details.

What this inspection is for

A Maryland trailer safety inspection applies the current state procedure to the trailer and its installed equipment. State inspection rules and 7 Auto Care’s shop capability are separate: authorization, physical access, equipment, trailer configuration, and brake type all matter.

What to bring

  • Trailer registration, ownership, or transaction documents
  • The towing vehicle and a compatible, working electrical connection
  • Keys or access devices for locked compartments
  • Trailer length, GVWR, axle count, and whether it uses air brakes
  • Any MVA paperwork or prior inspection report that applies

What is typically checked

The exact procedure follows the applicable current Maryland or platform form. Typical categories include:

  • Tires, wheels, bearings, suspension, frame, and structural condition
  • Tail, stop, turn, marker, and license-plate lighting as applicable
  • Coupler or hitch components, breakaway equipment, and safety chains where required
  • Service brakes and emergency/brake-away operation when the trailer is equipped with them
  • Fenders, body, wiring, identification, and other items in the applicable Maryland procedure

How the appointment works

  1. 1

Call the preferred location before scheduling and provide trailer specifications.

  2. 2

The shop confirms whether its station class, equipment, doorway/lot access, and inspector availability fit that trailer.

  3. 3

Arrive with the towing setup functioning so lighting and brake-related items can be evaluated.

  4. 4

After inspection, the station records the result and explains any failed items and the applicable reinspection next step.

State requirements and shop capability are different. Maryland may allow a vehicle class while a particular station cannot accommodate its dimensions, weight, air brakes, or configuration.

Common questions

Clear answers before you hand over the keys.

Can 7 Auto Care inspect an air-brake trailer?

No. 7 Auto Care does not perform Maryland State Inspections on trailers equipped with air brakes. Contact us before scheduling if you’re unsure which inspection class your trailer requires.

Should I bring the towing vehicle?

Yes. Bring the compatible towing vehicle unless the location tells you otherwise; the connection may be needed to verify lights, electric brakes, or breakaway operation.

What if the trailer fails?

The inspector identifies the failed items on the report. The shop can explain applicable repair and reinspection choices without assuming you must authorize repairs there.

What trailer items are commonly checked?

The applicable Maryland procedure can include tires and wheels, bearings, lights and reflectors, frame/body, suspension, coupling and hitch components, safety chains, wiring, brakes and breakaway equipment where installed, plus other required safety equipment.

Can any 7 Auto Care location inspect any trailer?

No. Call first with length, GVWR, axle count, brake type, and configuration. A trailer may be allowed under state rules but still exceed a particular shop’s authorization, access, equipment, or inspector availability.
